The barrier islands are found all up and down the coast of Georgia. They could be considered beautiful and wonderful. These barrier islands are named,Tybee Island, St. Catherine’s Island, Ossabaw Island, Sapelo Island, Sea Island, St. Simons Island, Jekyll Island, Blackbeard Island, and Cumberland Island .
  • Sea Island is only 5 miles long and 2 miles wide including the marshes.
  • The north end of the island is home to the Ocean Forest Golf Club and the world famous Cloister Hotel.
  • Due to Sea Island’s remote location, easily secured location, and luxury accommodations; the Group of Eight (G8) Summit was held here in June 2004.  The G8 summit is the top eight economic countries in the world that meet once a year.
  • Most of Sea Island has been developed but some ancient live oaks and pines still remain throughout the island, with the south end of the island still mostly in its natural state.
  • Sea Island is a favorite nesting site for loggerhead sea turtles, with some 66 nests per year.
  • The southern end of the island continues to grow towards Saint Simons Island and  as produced an inter-dune meadow.
  • The temperatures ranges from 43º F in January to 90º F in July.
